Caltius Capital Management Celebrates 20th Anniversary

December 19, 2017

Caltius Capital Management has completed a rebranding and launched a new website in celebration of its 20th anniversary.  The forward-thinking website characterizes the employee-owned firm’s collaborative culture and two decades of investing success.  Members of its current senior management team founded Caltius in 1997 to fill a capital gap by providing junior capital and equity to the lower middle market.  This vision consistently has been fulfilled through its funds, Caltius Structured Capital (formerly known as Caltius Mezzanine) and Caltius Equity Partners, founded in 1997 and 1999, respectively.

“It’s amazing to realize we’ve been sitting in the same office pursuing the same vision for so many years,” said Jim Upchurch, president and CEO of Caltius.  “We wouldn’t be here without the thousands of people who are part of our community, including our investors, portfolio company owners, intermediaries and other professionals.  These relationships are the core of our foundation and we are tremendously thankful for each and every one of them.”

Caltius Structured Capital (CSC) changed its name from Caltius Mezzanine as part of the 20th anniversary rebranding to more accurately reflect the array of security structures it provides.  CSC’s $7 million to $50 million junior capital solutions facilitate transaction dynamics including acquisitions, partner buyouts and dividend recapitalizations for lower middle market business owners, while allowing them to maintain economic and operating control.

“Since the beginning, our purpose has been to help business owners achieve their goals,” commented Greg Howorth, managing director and co-founder of Caltius Structured Capital.  “We’ve put $1.2 billion to use across five funds by spending the time to understand the nuances of each investment opportunity, then structuring a flexible capital solution to fit the business owner’s unique needs.”

Caltius Equity Partners buys and builds lower middle market companies in the business services, industrial services, IT and managed services and consumer services industries.  It invests from $10 million to $30 million per transaction for controlling or substantial minority ownership positions in businesses generating EBITDA from $4 million to $12 million, facilitating management buyouts, recapitalizations and corporate growth.

“We are in the people business, backing and collaborating with management teams to increase shareholder value,” noted Michael Morgan, managing director and co-founder of Caltius Equity Partners.  “Since opening our doors in 1999, we have acquired, built and successfully exited companies by staying true to our purpose and applying decades of experience to help management with operational strategy design and execution.”
